I have been thinking and discussing some sudden changes in my company in very recent time when a big player of the same domain entered in Indian market and swept away a big chunk of the human talent, my company possesses (or rather used to posses).
If one wishes to stay in a company for a longer period then should it be considered like, is the employee loyal or helpless and can’t move into some new company?
Most of the people I know, zeroed in on the later point (helpless), or they decided that at least all the managers think so.
Recently I have seen what a complacent and ignorant management can do to company when people starts running out as soon as there is an opportunity, and in most of the cases these are the same people who have been with the company for a long time, because they are perceived as helpless bunch of people who can not find any new job and should not be under any retention plan.
I had words with so many people who left recently and most of them have one concern that they felt ignored by the managers despite of serving for so many years in the company, because managers have one simple approach that if some one is not leaving the organization even after few years (3 years as standard in Indian context) then he has to be helpless and not loyal.
One bad impact of this approach is that even I who never felt like leaving my current company so far has started thinking seriously about changing J
One more thing why managers always start admiring someone after he puts up the paper and not before that?
It simply instill the feeling into every one that to be worthy enough one has to resign first J
In the end if you don’t want to sound helpless then the very first thing you should do keep changing the job after every few years (3 years max again) else get ready to feel ignored J
